September 11th changed the lives of the majority of Americans, Nickolas Wildstar was no different. This national day of tragedy marked a turning point in his life because at this stage of his youth he was on the path to discovering himself and the ways of the world. The attack on the twin towers opened up his eyes to the greater purpose within him that all humans seek and from this search he discovered his true desire in life was to help bring about peace on Earth. As a rap artist, Wildstar had grown accustomed to vocalizing about the day-to-day issues people face in life while simultaneously proposing ways to overcome them. Using the worldwide language of struggle, he realized the purpose of this communication was to “heal the world” as the song by Michael Jackson suggests.
As a young man growing up, Wildstar took an early liking to politics. Often opting to watch shows such as 20/20 or Nightline opposed to what was more popular for people his age then. Since the day he could vote, Wildstar made it a point to get involved in the elections. He’s voted as a Democrat and as a Republican, always casting his vote for the candidates he felt reflected the best interests for all of the nation’s people. Unfortunately, like many voters, he began to lose faith in the system as reality set into the little or no change resulting from politicians promises but he still wanted to have a voice in the choice. Shortly after the 2008 election, he became disappointed in Barack Obama as President despite his earlier support. President Obama resembled more of the same troubled partisan politics that the nation was desperate to get away from. The cycle of Wall Street running Washington would not change and Wildstar did not want to stand by and watch as the country lost its democracy to become an oligarchy under authoritarian control.
Stumbling upon the cyber hacktivist group Anonymous seemed to be fate for Nickolas Wildstar. After hearing about their rebellious acts to discipline the offenders of public trust and loyalty, their vigilante approach to battling oppression and poverty, and their use of the Guy Fawkes mask from one of his favorite movies “V For Vendetta”, he was eager about getting involved. Although he didn’t know anything about hacking into computers he did enjoy the open platform of being able to talk to like-minded individuals who were fed up with government’s attack on citizens personal freedoms, the non-stop growth of the police state across the nation and voting for candidates that claim to have all the answers then suddenly become clueless as they enter into office. These people had met their tipping point and overnight began to occupy certain places through a sitting protest refusing to leave, sparking a worldwide movement in cities such as New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Mexico City. As protests began to pop up throughout California, in cities such as Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco and San Diego it became clear to Wildstar that this revolution was much closer to home than he believed. Making his music with a more social conscience tone just didn’t seem like it was doing enough with violence from police now being used to forcefully disband Occupy sites and the news showing it live on TV.
Responding to a call for action by the Anonymous group, Wildstar joined along with other previous Occupy members and protesters of the like, by participating in the Million Mask March which took place in over 650 cities across the world! A few months prior to this he had devised a plan for rebellion and was looking forward to using this moment to make his special announcement. As the crowd began to gather on November 5th, 2013 they opened up the floor for open mic speeches so Wildstar stepped up to speak. He talked to them passionately about his disgruntlement with the government, especially with how Jerry Brown was governing the State of California, suggesting they organize to have him recalled since this was done successfully to remove Gray Davis from office. He also proposed that the best way to secure the interests of voters would be to replace the recalled politicians with everyday working class citizens willing to serve the public, starting with himself.
